Picnic at Marina Barrage!!

Sunday, November 23, 2008

Went for picnic with 1/2 of THE TEAM-Sam, Pearls, Renee and Nanxin at the newly opened Marina Barrage. I was assigned to bring fruits.Sam brought starbucks's croissant, muffins and drinks.Nanxin made egg mayo sandwich. Pearls was in charge of drinks. And Renee got two roasted chickens from Carrefour. We arranged to meet at 9am, but we arrived there at 10.30am. We found a suitable spot to lay our beach mats, pearls brought her hello kitty mat. =) Apparently we were the only ones who were having a picnic on the grasses. Adding to that, there were a few workers throwing soil and new grass somewhere 5m away from where we were. It was revolting to see soil and seeds being tossed around while we were happily muching on a egg mayo sandwich. Occasionally, i had to be on a good lookout to see if the soil would happen to land on my sandwich. The sun was exceptionally HOT! We didn't receive much shade cause we had our picnic out in the open, but i thought that was what picnic should originally be. Thank you nanxin for offering to share her umbrella with me when the sun was like shining directly above our heads.

Next,we decided to move to the pavilion.
It was better there cause we felt more sheltered. We played dices and bridge. Nanxin was such a fast learner, she just mastered how to play bridge in one afternoon. Unfortunately, sam had to leave at 1pm because she needs to go church. So, the four of us just continue with our countless rounds of bridge. We only paused to rest when we saw a slight shower and when we finally decided to have lunch-roasted chicken! Although i was not hungry, i just ate to keep my fill. But the sight of us using our bare hands to peel the chicken meat from the chicken itself seems kinda old age(using hands), maybe it's a little babaric or something. Anyway, it was an enjoyment to see nanxin and renee sourcing for more meat when me and pearls had already given up eating the chicken.

Then, we toured the gallery. The theme was"sustainable singapore". There was a model exhibit of marina barrage, newwater bottles, used newspaper and even the release of new water reserves park. Nanxin, pearls and renee were so delighted when they saw that kembagan's going to be developed into a water sports reserve. They can actually canoe there when the place is built and opened for the public in n years time. We spent about an hour in there and i found some of the exhibits quite eye-catching.

I like this the most!!

At the end of the day, we are all burnt.

But i think we are more or less glad that we enjoyed ourselves. We should have more of these group outings and i seriously want to fly a kite.
